Nebraska Republican Sen. Deb Fischer’s husband, Bruce Fischer, is being praised online as a “spirit animal” after appearing to snub Vice President Kamala Harris during his wife’s swearing-in ceremony.
While Harris presided over the event as Senate president, Bruce Fischer scowled, refused her handshake, and gave only a curt nod. During their group photo, Harris dropped her hand to her side as Bruce remained unsmiling.
Social media users shared their reactions, with one writing, “Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer’s husband is my spirit animal. Guy wanted nothing to do with Kamala.” Another joked, “Protect this man at all costs!” A third even suggested Donald Trump award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

For her part, Harris is not planning to “go quietly into the night” after she was thumped in the 2024 presidential election.
During a segment on CNN, reporter Isaac Dovere revealed that Harris privately tells backers she is considering running for governor of California in 2026 or president in 2028. Harris also reportedly does not want her “final act” to be certifying Trump’s election victory over her.
“We haven’t seen or heard much from Vice President Kamala Harris since she lost the election last month,” CNN’s Manu Raju told CNN’s viewers. “But the Democratic Party still reeling from Trump’s victory.”
Dovere said that Harris is mulling two options.
Vice President Kamala Harris has hinted at future plans, telling associates she’s “staying in the fight” and considering a 2028 presidential bid or a 2026 California gubernatorial run, according to Dovere. Advisers worry about her legacy and the optics of certifying a Trump win, favoring a governor’s race she’s likely to dominate. However, running for governor could rule out a 2028 presidential campaign. Some allies feel she deserves another shot, while others fear a tough Democratic primary. Democratic strategist Theryn Bond urged Harris not to run for president again.
