Biden Greenlights Billions More For Ukraine In Waning Days Of Presidency

President Joe Biden announced $2.5 billion in security aid for Ukraine in the final days of his presidency. The funding will support artillery and air defense systems, among other needs. Biden emphasized delivering assistance swiftly, including older U.S. equipment, while replenishing American stockpiles. This comes as President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to prioritize ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

President Joe Biden vowed to continue strengthening Ukraine’s position during his remaining time in office. Since February 2022, the U.S. has committed $130 billion and disbursed $86 billion to Ukraine, according to the special inspector general. Despite nearly three years of brutal combat, neither side has gained decisive control.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President-elect Donald Trump recently discussed pursuing a “fair and sustainable peace” to end the conflict. The war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and millions of displaced Ukrainians, according to reports.
