Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy criticized colleagues last week for allegedly covering up President Joe Biden’s declining mental health for years. His remarks followed a Wall Street Journal report citing over 50 sources who claimed Biden’s mental capacity was questioned even before his 2020 election and has been concealed by staff throughout his presidency.
While hosting Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday, Peter Doocy noted that none of his White House press briefing colleagues addressed the detailed Wall Street Journal report after its release.
The report, cited by Mediaite, included accounts from Democratic aides, lawmakers, and donors voicing concerns about President Biden’s mental acuity and age. It also described strict controls over who interacted with Biden, what they discussed, and the information he received.
The Wall Street Journal report revealed that meetings were often canceled on Biden’s “off days” and one-on-one interactions with him were intentionally limited.
Peter Doocy called it the “biggest cover-up in Washington since Watergate,” criticizing the lack of questions about the story in the White House press briefing room. “Yesterday, there were zero questions about this huge Wall Street Journal story citing 50 sources on what appears to be the biggest cover-up in Washington,” Doocy said Saturday.
“The story was 18 pages long when I printed it,” Doocy said, “but the gist is that unelected White House staff knew during the campaign and transition that President Biden might be diminished and actively worked to hide it from the public.”
He criticized the lack of curiosity about the Wall Street Journal report, noting that most briefing questions focused on Congress and the looming government shutdown. Doocy added that Fox correspondent Jacqui Heinrich had planned to ask about the report but wasn’t called on, saying he would have done the same if present.
Typically, when I’m in the White House press briefing room, I have a list,” Doocy said. “If something comes up 20 times, I’ll cross it off and move to the next question. I’m not sure if no one else had this on their list or if it’s just too uncomfortable to ask, even with only a month left for this White House.”
A montage then aired showing Biden defending his administration’s handling of the southern border, the Afghanistan withdrawal, and Hunter Biden’s legal cases. Despite pledging to accept the outcomes, Biden later pardoned his son after convictions on gun and tax charges.
“I wish I had answers,” Doocy said of his fellow correspondents. “Sometimes I’d like to get in their heads; most of the time, I don’t.
