MSNBC personality Joy Reid will reportedly be forced to take a pay cut to remain a host on the network along with other on-air talents. Following President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide win in the 2024 election, legacy media outlets, particularly MSNBC, have seen a massive decline in ratings. According to reports, the network is taking drastic actions to stay afloat, including reductions in pay for its anchors.
Conservative commentator Collin Rugg broke the news on X, explaining that Reid’s contract had come under revision, just after Rachel Maddow took a multi-million dollar pay cut. “NEW: Far-left MSNBC host Joy Reid will have to take a pay cut if she wants to stay in her role at the network, according to The Ankler. The news comes after Rachel Maddow was also reportedly forced to take a $5M pay cut,” he wrote.

“Reid and Maddow aren’t the only anchors impacted. Host Stephanie Ruhle also will reportedly need to take a pay cut. Reid currently is making around $3M a year to host her show,” the X influencer added, illustrating the trend across the board. “The development comes as ratings for the far-left network continue to slump after the 2024 election,” Rugg concluded, highlighting MSNBC’s post-election struggles.
Rugg’s commentary on the matter sparked thousands of reactions from fellow X users, many of whom were shocked that Reid was paid such a lucrative salary to begin with. Popular account Wall Street Mav wrote, “$3 million per year? For Joy Reid? That is insane. There are tons of people more interesting they could put TV who would do less money than that.”
In a recent monologue on MSNBC, Joy Reid delivered sharp criticism of MAGA Republicans just before Thanksgiving. According to The American Tribune, Reid compared undocumented immigrants to pilgrims and mocked conservatives’ calls for consequences for illegal immigration. She sarcastically said, “They made the choice to overstay their visas or come into our country illegally, so if they get deported, consequences.”
Reid also condemned right-wing values, accusing conservatives of hypocrisy. She stated, “You don’t want to suffer the consequences of your votes. You don’t want to be around me because I voted for fascism. No fair. I am coughing on you with COVID, but you want me to wear a mask for your safety? No fair, my body, my choice.”
Reid’s tirade continued with pointed remarks: “Make your own dinner, MAGA. Make your own sandwiches, wipe your own tears, troll amongst yourselves with Elon and leave us alone.” She added that conservatives achieved their goals through voting, contrasting it with past Capitol riots, and ended by criticizing their attitude: “Stop acting like we owe you, and for God’s sake, stop whining. It’s embarrassing. Our Thanksgiving, our choice.”
