At 83, Miriam Margolyes predicts she doesn’t have ‘long to live’

Miriam Margolyes, beloved for her role as Professor Sprout in Harry Potter, recently revealed she doesn’t have long to live. At 83, she candidly reflects on her health struggles, including heart disease and spinal stenosis. After undergoing a heart valve replacement in 2023, she humorously shared, “I now have a cow’s heart.”

Margolyes admits lifelong indulgence in food has impacted her health: “I shouldn’t have been so greedy.” She now relies on a mobility scooter and has registered as disabled. Despite finding aging “limiting and depressing,” she maintains her signature wit.

Financially, she worries about affording care in her final years. Without children, she’s saving to ensure her and her partner, Heather Sutherland, are well cared for.

Facing mortality, Margolyes remains fearless: “I’m probably going to die within five or six years, if not before.” Though slowed physically, her spirit remains strong. Fans admire her humor and honesty, proving that even in decline, she continues to inspire.
