Border Czar Says U.S. Military Stepping Up Migrant Deportation Support

Former President Donald Trump’s “border czar,” Tom Homan, provided an update on mass deportation efforts on Fox News Thursday. He revealed that the Pentagon is offering more air support than expected, easing the strain on ICE and the Department of Homeland Security’s budget.

Host Will Cain noted that the Air Force will supply four aircraft to help deport up to 5,000 migrants. Homan called the assistance “absolutely necessary,” explaining that it allows ICE agents to focus on apprehending criminals instead of handling transportation duties. “This was planned for a while, and we made it happen in three days,” Homan added.

Earlier this month, Tom Homan visited Chicago, a city opposing the Trump administration’s immigration plans, and announced that deportation operations would begin “day one.” Speaking directly to Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson, Homan warned, “If your mayor doesn’t help, he can step aside. If he harbors illegal aliens, I will prosecute him.” He also criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, blaming leadership for Chicago’s troubles.

Homan revealed deportations would start nationwide on January 21, targeting criminal and gang-affiliated undocumented immigrants. During a Fox News interview with Jesse Watters, Homan emphasized that ICE would enforce immigration laws “without apology” and promised large-scale raids across the country, including Chicago.

Watters pressed Homan on ICE’s limited actions under the Biden administration. Homan explained that ICE had been restricted by Secretary Mayorkas, who prioritized arresting only serious criminals or national security threats, effectively barring agents from targeting undocumented immigrants solely for illegal entry. Homan vowed that ICE would now operate freely to enforce the law.
