Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are navigating a “new world” after their 6-year-old son, Miles, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Teigen shared the news on Instagram, explaining that some followers had noticed a glucose monitor on Miles’ arm in a recent photo of him holding signs at the Paris Olympics.
In her post, Teigen expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and encouragement from her followers. “You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and offered the most beautiful and supportive messages,” she wrote, adding that she was deeply touched by the kindness of the community.

“A couple of weeks ago, Miles was hospitalized with a severe case of shigella, a bacterial intestinal infection linked to contaminated food or water. Many of his friends fell ill as well, as they had attended the same camp — unfortunately, these things happen,” Teigen explained in her heartfelt post.
Doctors then detected an anomaly in his bloodwork.
“The doctors noticed something unusual in his blood tests, prompting further investigation. I’ve since learned that many young children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this way—after being hospitalized for an unrelated issue. Additional tests revealed Miles is in the ‘honeymoon phase’ of managing T1. Last night, we gave him his first insulin shot, marking the start of a new journey for us—a whole new world to navigate, with so much to learn along the way.”
She concluded her post with heartfelt gratitude, expressing appreciation for the outpouring of kind and supportive messages.
She wrote, “This post is a heartfelt thank you for your kindness. It means so much to Miles to know that so many others are experiencing the same thing, and that he is not alone.”
